Betül Durmuş is a PhD candidate at Koç University Public Law programme. She completed her bachelor studies in 2013 at Bilkent University Faculty of Law. She received an LL.M. degree from Koç University with her thesis on “Indirect Discrimination in the Practice of the United Nations Human Rights Treaty Bodies: Testing Originality and Coherence”.

She is currently working as a Human Rights Law Reporter under a work-study programme conducted by Koç University Center for Global Public Law in collaboration with Oxford University Press. She is working as a PhD fellow for the project on “The Effects of International Human Rights Law on Public International Law and its Sub-Branches”, which has been supervised by Prof. Başak Çalı and funded by the British Academy. She is also a researcher for the project titled as “The Impact of the Right to Individual Petition on Constitutional Interpretation, Interpretation of International Law and the Turkish Judicial System: A Comparative Analysis of the Judicial Patterns of the Turkish Constitutional Court Case-Law between 2012-2017”, which has been funded by TÜBİTAK-ARDEB under the supervision of Prof. Bertil Emrah Oder. She also worked as a researcher and legal advisor for the projects conducted by non-governmental organizations such as Türkiye’s Joint Human Rights Platform and International Commission of Jurists.

Her areas of research interests include public international law, international human rights law and comparative constitutional law.
